This blog’s been a little quiet this summer because life’s gotten BUSY — vacations, fun new projects at work, fun new projects at home, and most recently, moving into a bigger apartment with Justin a few weeks ago!

We have a lot more wall space to cover now, so we’ve been comparing notes on art and picking photos to send off for framing. I know I’m happiest when I’m surrounded by interesting visuals that really reflect who we are, so we also started looking for ways to incorporate one of Justin’s longtime passions: historical fencing!

(Yep, we’re those geeks!)

It’s a good bet we’ll have some actual (well, reproduction) historical swords up on our walls at some point in the future, but for now, we also decided to return to one of our favorite places in New York for a little photo inspiration — the Arms and Armor collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Even before we met, I have to admit I had a soft spot for this often overlooked collection at the Met — even if you have zero interest in military history, I don’t know how you can fail to appreciate the craftsmanship on display in this wing. As a photographer, I’ve also always been captivated by the geometry of all the interlocking pieces in each suit, and the play of light across the contrasting textures of steel, iron, chainmail, and cloth.

I love the photo series that came out of this day, and it was also really fun to work collaboratively on an art project for our home. Can’t wait for these to come back from Framebridge!
